After the success of our inaugural Demoncon comic and gaming convention we realised we needed to follow up the success with another event as soon as possible. As the gaming side of things had garnered less interest during the first evnt we decided to focus Demoncon2 just on comics, asking (or is that harrassing) as many artists and writers to attend as we could cram into the venue without it bursting. ‘Food outlet explodes from over stuffing of illustrators’, would make a somewhat bizarre headline in the KM. With the guest list numbers settled at 16 it was good that on this occasion I had two capable pairs of hands to hand over the organisation of the event to being as the last time I’d nearly suffered a total meltdown. Jon Rapley and Nicholas Lawrence took over the running of the event on the day and couldn’t have done a better job. Table plans were drawn up, guests were ‘meeted and greeted’, furniture was relocated and raffle prizes were acquired. All that was left for me to do was enjoy the day with my children, which this time, unlike at the first event I was able to do as I was able to relax and as the poster given to me by guest, Tony Lee, says, ‘Stay Calm and Read Comics’. Things are just about finalised with regards the guest list for Demoncon2. The guests that will be packing (and that probably is a fair description) into Eden on the 6th November are as follows:
Returning for their Second Demoncon
Jack Lawrence (Darkham Vale, Lions Tigers & Bears, Tinpot Hobo)
Chris Phillips (Candleman, The Moose, Travelling the Wolf Road)
Chris Bates (Travelling the Wolf Road) Read More »

This week sees the first issue of The Rinse, by Gary Phillips and Marc Laming, hit our shelves. At The Grinning Demon we are fortunate enough to have received an original piece of art by Marc to give away to one lucky subscriber to the title. This will then be presented by Marc himself at Demoncon2.

Draw for the art will be made at Demoncon2

Posters are ready, t-shirts and mugs being printed. A number of guests confirmed.
Things are chugging along towards Demoncon2 quite nicely.
We’ve dropped the gaming aspect that featured in our first Demoncon so as to focus on more tables for writers and artists.
For those that haven’t seen it on twitter here’s the two versions of the poster, kindly drawn and inked by Davestokes with poster design and colours by Robert Parham.

As well as those listed on the poster we have a number of other guests booked in:
Dave Stokes, Big success from Demoncon1 and poster artist returns
David Wynne, Artist for Orangutan comics, Mr.Sharman’s collaborator on Hypergirl
Dan Boultwood, Artist on The Gloom, Hope Falls and The Baker St Irregulars, plus he drew REALLY cool steampunk pictures of my kids at MCM Expo

We’ve also sent out invites to Emma Vieceli, Lee Bradley, Laurence Campbell and Clint Langley.
Laurence Campbell (2000AD, Marvel Universe vs Wolverine) looks promising. The others it is a case of fingers crossed.
We still have spaces for 4-5 more artists so if anyone knows of anybody who’d like a FREE table, get them to get in touch with me.

You may have seen Spencer walking around Demoncon, camera in hand.

I’m somewhat late in writing this, but then again what is new for me on this Blog. also this is only the first blog of thanks. All the non comic folk’ll be in part 2
Our inaugural DEMONCON was a roaring success, far exceeding my initial expectations (123 attendees, nearly £4000 spent cumulatively), leaving me owing a lot of thanks to a lot of people, so here goes, in no particular order.

Great poster for Demoncon, kindly drawn for us by Candleman creator, Chris Phillips.
Candleman will be there on the 1st of May – Will you?

Preliminary poster for the May 1st DEMONCON. Kindly drawn for us by Jack Lawrence who’ll be selling his new comic “Tinpot Hobo” on the day, with the text work added by shop regular Robert Parham. This would have been the final poster design other than the fact I failed to mention The Grinning Demon or add contact details anywhere on the poster. D’Oh!
Rob is therefore re-working it for me and it should be up and printed shortly.
